Most significant development at Annapolis conference – U.S. is to monitor and judge both sides

Here is our pick for the most far-reaching and consequential decision at the Annapolis conference today: the two sides have apparently agreed that the U.S. will be the prosecutor, judge, and jury of their acts and deeds from now on, until further notice.

The Joint Declaration — read out by President George Bush — concludes with these phrases: “The United States will monitor and judge the fulfillment of the commitment of both sides of the road map. Unless otherwise agreed by the parties, implementation of the future peace treaty will be subject to the implementation of the road map, as judged by the United States.”
