U.S. announces media accreditation procedures for Annapolis event

The U.S. State Department has just announced its media accreditation procedures for the Annapolis event — which is now apparently officially being called an “international meeting”. No date is being mentioned.

Apparently, it will take longer to accredit the several thousands of journalists who will be sent to cover this event, than to prepare the delegations who should attend — who have not yet been officially invited.

Also, the announcement says, interestingly — in light of the recent flutter of activity concerning whether the Palestinians will or will not acknowledge Israel as a Jewish state, and if so, at what exact point in this process — that this international meeting is to help realize President Bush’s vision of “two DEMOCRATIC states, Israel and Palestine” etc.

The announcement reads: “As announced, President of the United States George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice look forward to an international meeting later this fall focused on supporting the efforts of Prime Minister Olmert and President Abbas to realize President Bush’s vision of two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, living side-by-side in peace and security.  Although the dates and times of the meeting will be announced subsequently, the State Department Bureau of Public Affairs would like to start the accreditation process now to accommodate the large numbers of press expected to attend.  Further information on the deadline for credential applications, collection of media credentials and date, location, and other details on the meeting will be provided after arrangements are confirmed…”
